I don’t usually write reviews but this one is well deserved. I took sociology as an optional because I read haralambos and loved the subject but unfortunately ended up scoring very low marks in the optional exam and didn’t qualify for the interview. I was so confused and angry and I thought a lot about changing the optional. Then I found BrandName’s sociology test series and made me realize that just knowing sociology is not enough, writing answers that fetch you marks in exams is a completely different ball game altogether. I wasn’t scoring well because I had no idea what the UPSC examiner was looking for.
Brandname’s test series told me exactly what I was doing wrong and what I needed to change. Before taking this test series, I had no idea how to write answers with a “sociological perspective” but the series made me understand how to write answers in a sociological way so that it doesn’t feel like a general GS answer. Plus it made me understand the importance of things like having a clear structure, understanding the key words and writing the answer according to the demands of the question. These are little things that matter a lot and end up making the difference. The way I write my answers now has completely changed now, before this, I didn’t even know what I was doing wrong.
So I’d say anyone who doesn’t have a background in sociology should go for this test series to learn how to write good UPSC answers. Plus the fact that I can just submit the answers online without having to go to a centre is ideal for someone like me who has a regular job on the weekdays and wants their UPSC coaching to give them maximum flexibility. This has been a good experience, I’d only like to add that I wish they came out with the rest of their study resources soon and also started a video lecture series.

I had already enrolled in a GS coaching so I didn’t know if I should enrol in a coaching for optional or not. I thought sociology coaching would definitely help but I didn’t have the budget and I was quite confused. Brandname has solved that problem for me, I took a few of their tests and I thought it was really helpful so enrolled in their test series program and it has been a great decision.
Their test series is one of the best that I’ve seen anywhere; the questions feel like real upsc exams and their evaluation reports are so thorough! They tell you exactly what you should be doing, it’s like having a mentor coaching you personally for sociology. I’m giving them money so I want my coaching to spoonfeed me and this feels like I’m being spoonfed and I love it so much! I would recommend it to anyone who is taking sociology as an optional. The questions can be a bit tough at times but I’ve given more than 15 test series so far and I can say that my skills and confidence have improved a lot.
Another plus point is the resources available on the website. The solved papers are simply amazing! Just by reading them a few times I feel like my knowledge base has improved so much. I can now recall thinkers and data so easily and use it in my answers. I feel BrandName is easily one of the best resources for sociology optional online. My only suggestion would be that they can start giving discounts for students who are preparing for upsc.
